Answer: The most frequently used transfer transaction types in Fundriver are Internal Transfer, External Transfer In, External Transfer Out, and Cash Historical Gift Transfer. Here is a summary of how to use these transaction types in Fundriver.

Internal Transfer is used when you need to move a temporarily or unrestricted balance from one fund to another in the same investment pool. This is the only transaction type on the Transaction Entry screen that allows two funds to be impacted by one entry. Enter the fund that is having a balance transferred out in the ‘Fund’ field. The amount should be entered as a positive value when using the Transaction Entry screen. The system is configured to reduce the value of the endowment in the ‘Fund’ field and to record an increase in value to the fund in the ‘Transfer To’ field.

In the above example, the Biology Quasi fund is transferring out $5,000 so it is entered into the Endowment field and the $5,000 is entered as a positive value.

Cash Historical Gift Transfer transaction type is used ewhen you need to transfer part, or all, of the historical gift balance out of a fund (this is often the permanently restricted balance). You would enter the amount as a negative Cash Historical Gift Transfer when moving the historical gift amount out of a fund. A positive Cash Historical Gift Transfer entry would be made for a fund that is receiving the historical gift balance from another fund. Two separate transactions are required in this situation.

In the above example, the Law Library fund is having $10,000 of its historical gift balance transferred to another fund, so a Cash Historical Gift Transfer is used as the transfer transaction type. The Amount needs to be recorded as negative. A 2nd entry would be recorded in Fundriver to move the historical gift balance to another fund. Cash Historical Gift Transfer would be the Transaction Type and the Amount would be a positive $10,000 to the receiving fund.

External Transfer In is typically used to record an amount that is transferred to an endowed fund from outside of the investment pool., i.e., from another investment pool, from a non-endowed source. This transaction type can also be used to record a transfer within the same investment pool. External Transfer In and External Transfer Out are often used together.

In the above example, the Mathematics Quasi fund is being transferred $25,000 from outside of the investment pool.

External Transfer Out is typically used to record a transfer of funds that is being moved outside of the investment pool. This transaction type can also be used to record a transfer out within the same investment pool. An External Transfer Out entry is recorded with a positive value. Fundriver is configured to reduce the value of a fund when an External Transfer Out entry is recorded.

In the above example, the Biology Quasi fund is transferring $30,000 out of the investment pool. Note that Amount is entered as a positive value when using the External Transfer Out transaction type.
